So Christmas and New Year have come and gone very fast!
With £0 raised over the festive period apart from online donations (thank you to all who have done so so far) I have some serious catching up to do.
So i thought, why not kick the second term off with a bang!
This Friday I am hoping to raise around £100 by selling outdoor (particularly climbing) clothes to the lovely people in Nottingham attending the bouldering competition.
The clothes have been kindly donated to me by V12 outdoors (if you've never heard of them and would like some clothing, they have great competitive prices and wonderfully helpful staff - even if i have to say that as my boyfriend is one of them!).
So January will hopefully get me further towards my first goal of £580 and well on my way to trekking across the Great Wall of China.
With 5 months left till the trip commences I need to be really organised and on top of my fundraising!
Future events:
Bag Packing
Bachelor Auction
Fashion Show
My Great Wall of China Trek

How many sweets in the jar?
This is the first major fundraising event :D woo hoo!
(Previous to this I managed to raise £20 getting people to compete in the Jacob's Creme Cracker Challenge and for those of you who are oblivious to what this is, the challenge is 3 crackers in 1 minute with no liquid allowed. Think it sounds easy, think again!)
This fundraising event is aptly called 'How Many Sweets In The Jar' :)
Pretty straight forward, i have a jar of sweets and i'm charging £1 for a guess, if you get the right number or the closest number you win the jar of sweets.
If your a student at Nottingham Trent and are wanting to take part as a bit of fun, the sweets jar will be behind the bar at The Point from now until the end of term.
If your not a student and would like a go then you could message me on this blog with your guess and put £1 per guess into my donation page online which is:
https://mydonate.bt.com/fundraisers/kerrybondishelpingchildren
I'm hoping to create a lot of interest around this event and start my fundraising with a bang! Please check it out!

About Childreach International
Childreach International supports some of the poorest kids in the world with projects in Nepal, Cambodia, India, China, Tanzania and Bangladesh.
The three main goals of Childreach International is to make sure each child has access to health, education and child rights. (I'm sure most of us take all these things for granted...)
One project that really interests me is the AWIH project in Nepal. This stands for the Association for the Welfare of the Intellectually Handicapped. The main objectives of this project are to: support and educate parents of children with learning difficulties, raise public awareness and banish misconceptions about those who are intellectually handicapped and to develop the life skills and confidence of children with learning difficulties to help them lead more independent day-to-day lives.
I think it's really important in all countries and in all aspects of life for everyone to be given equal opportunities and to not be shunned because of something that isn't considered 'normal'. This project gives me hope that these things ARE happening world wide.
Another fantastic innovative project that Childreach International are funding is called The Climate Challenge.
This project not only aims to minimise gas emissions but it also aims to drastically reduce the number of deaths caused by carbon emissions whilst cooking. Unbelievably 1.2million deaths a year occur this way in Africa.
Childreach International's plans are to provide the majority of people with zero emissions solar powered cooking stoves. These only cost £1.50 each and last for 2 years! Think of how many lives your money could be saving!
Our carbon footprint is a very up-to-date concern for the whole of the world, so I believe Childreach International are spot on with this project!

l will fly together with 39 other Childreach International entusiasts from Nottingham Trent University during the summer months of 2012 heading to Beijing, where I will spend the day in the city, exploring and sampling the local culture...
Day 3 :
This is when I actually begin the expedition where the Great Wall meets the vast Pacific Ocean at ‘Old Dragon’s Head’, I will get to sample the temples and monasteries in the area.
Day 4 :
This is a trek through the jungle – sampling the breath-taking views of rural China! That night I even get to make Chinese dumplings... This is going to be a challenge in itself!
Day 5 :
This consists of a hike up to the dramatic ruins and panoramas of Cihou tower.
Day 6 :
This is a chance to visit the tombs of the royal Emperors.
Day 7 :
I believe this will be the most challenging day consisting of a trek from the Huangyaguan Fortress, up to the top of ‘Heaven’s Ladder’, this means summiting four peaks!... in case you haven't guessed this entails walking up A LOT of steps... roughly 900, a chance to tone those legs! Anyone for a hike up a mountain when I get back, i'll race you?
Day 8 :
I will be witnessing the contrast between the ‘wild wall’ (the unrestored section of the wall) and the stretch of restored splendour... and a chance for a little bit of scrambling in the process. During this day I will also get to view the majestic Chinese mountains from a boat and see a part of the wall that is now under water. I am most looking forward to this day, the Chinese mountains is something that i'm very excited about :)
Day 9 :
This is a chance to sample the ‘wild wall’ again, a chance to scramble along one of the seven wonder’s of the world... it’s also a chance to try out my new skill of Chinese dumpling making for dinner! (Let's hope I get it the first time)
Day 10 :
Today I will be aching but full of celebrations... The end of all the hard work.
This is the travel itinerary, and I hope this has made you realise this is no holiday!
This is going to be the hardest physical challenge i've faced by far but I need your help to be able to get there!
I'm also not doing this selfishly and am under taking this challenge for Childreach International (please see my next blog for details of the work they do, it deserves a whole blog!)
Please donate generously as the fundraising goal is set at £2500. Just click on the link below and follow the instructions.
Thank you :)
